Damaged Books Policy

Swoon Bookstore has no control over the handling of your order once it is handed off to the postal service and we are not responsible for the parcel upon check in. We package all our orders appropriately for transit, ensuring that they are adequately protected.

If your order does arrived damaged, you have up to three days to notify us and begin a claim. You will be required to provide photographic evidence. Any claims submitted after three days will not be entitled to a replacement or refund. We use a case by case scenario of damaged items needing to be sent back to us prior to receiving replacements (at our cost, we shall provide you with a shipping label).

PLEASE NOTE: This policy does not pertain to international packages shipped via a forwarding company. Refund and replacement requests will be honored for up to three days after delivery to the address provided on the order. If an international package is shipped via a forwarding company, it is no longer insured by Swoon Bookstore and the package would still need to be received within three days of the first delivery date to qualify for replacement or refund. 

What qualifies as damaged? 
  1. Obvious rips and tears in the pages or dust jackets.
  2. Dents in the book edges, spine, and corners over 1 cm in depth.
  3. Residue on the dust jacket or pages that cannot be removed. 
  4. Water damage.
  5. Obvious emboss imperfections such as flaking, scuffs, or scratches over 1 cm. 
  6. No signature when there should be. 
What does not qualify as damaged?
  1. Bends, creases, or light scratches on the pages or dust jackets. 
  2. Wavy pages.
  3. Minimal creasing on book edges, spine, or corners.
  4. Minor scratches or bleeding on sprayed edges.

The books may arrive from the printer with slight imperfections, however we order stock to account for this and will pick the premium copies to send out. If the damage is significant and somehow occurred and/or was overlooked during our packing (and was NOT sustained while in the possession of the postal carrier or in the possession of the recipient), we may be able to send you a replacement depending on our inventory and the extent of the damage. To be eligible we will need notice and images of the damage within three days of receipt of the box. 

We reserve the right to request that the original be destroyed and that photo evidence of the destruction be provided before a replacement is sent, however please do NOT destroy the book unless instructed to do so directly by us. 

In some cases, the originals would need to be returned before any replacement can be sent. Shipping charges for sending the replacement would be covered by Swoon Bookstore (this does not extend to any customs, duties, VAT or other charges for international customers - those would remain the responsibility of the customer).  The replacement will not be sent out until the original item has been returned to and received by us. 

PLEASE NOTE: Slipcases and boxes are not eligible for replacement as they are packaging and protection for the books and items and are not considered as a product.
